Sir Gary Hickinbottom, Chair of the Patrick Finucane Inquiry, today met members of the Finucane family at St Comgalls – Ionad Eileen Howell, in West Belfast. This was the Chair’s first meeting since his appointment to the role earlier this month. The family were represented by Patrick’s widow Geraldine, along with her three children, Michael, Katherine and John. Also present were Patrick’s siblings, Seamus, Martin and Rosaleen and Patrick’s grandson.

Discussion covered practical arrangements for setting up the Inquiry, including the establishment of the Inquiry team and potential timetabling.

Speaking after the meeting Sir Gary said:

I welcome having the opportunity to meet Mrs Finucane and her family so soon after my appointment. My focus is to get the Inquiry formally establishedand build momentum towards delivering answers. I intend to fulfil my duties as Chair as fairly, openly and transparently as possible.
